The pill blocks or delays your ovaries from ovulating. Ovulation cannot proceed if an egg is not released, and that in turn prevents pregnancy. If you are already pregnant, this pill will not work for you, as it does not aid with abortion.
The range for effectiveness is very wide, at 54% up to 95%, due to the time sensitivity of the situation. Some women may not have access to the pill, and that is why we offer a direct delivery service at Zoey.
At Zoey, the emergency contraceptive pill we carry has been shown to work for up to 5 days after unprotected sex, and maintains efficacy with time. However, for best results, it is recommended to take the pill within 24 hours of sexual activity.
Emergency contraception does not replace your regular birth control prescription. Regular consumption may lead to side effects such as irregular period bleeding.
If you find yourself needing emergency contraception several times a year, you may want to consider switching to a daily birth control pill as it is up to 99% effective when used as recommended.
We understand that emergency contraception is a time-sensitive prescription, and that is why we will try to get your prescription out to you within 4 hours from your appointment.
Please take note that we do not do deliveries on Sundays and Public Holidays. Should you require it urgently on these days, please go to your nearest GP.
The emergency contraceptive we recommend at Zoey enters breast milk for 1 to 3 hours right after consumption, and is best to not breastfeed within 24 hours.
